Imagine a dinner in the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in New York.
The rich, the famous and the beautiful decked out in some of the finest jewels in town. Gilded branches and display cases dripping in diamonds. This was the setting of a Chanel’s ‘Nuit de Diamants’ or Night of Diamonds.
The private soiree was held in honor of the U.S. debut of 20 one-of-a-kind diamond pieces from the Chanel archives and the Vendome Collection. The 1930s-themed gala was a black and white event with precious gems worth millions of dollars on display as adornment on the necks, ears, and fingers of a few lucky guests. New York’s finest played dress-up with diamonds of course as the accessory of choice. From brooches to hair adornments, rings and bracelets it was a diamond banquet – though the fashion of today crept-in with many eschewing necklaces and choosing instead to ‘brooch’ the subject.
