It’s going to be a very happy New Year for one Florida couple after they got more than they ordered at a Florida restaurant.

George Brock was halfway through a plate of steamed clams at Dave’s Last Resort & Raw Bar in South Florida when he bit down on something hard. He had just tasted a rare iridescent purple pearl.

It turned out that hidden inside his $10 plate of clams was a pearl worth around $25,000. The gems occur most frequently in large New England quahogs, clams known for violet coloring on the inside of their shells. These clams though had come from Apalachicola in the Florida Panhandle.

Since the pearly find, orders for steamed clams at the restaurant have tripled.
