The 15th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards brought out Hollywood’s ‘A list’ on Sunday, and the jewelry looks were as stunning as the cascade of colorful frocks.
Plum, green and peach mingled with primary’s red, blue and yellow to create a veritable fashion rainbow on the Shrine Auditorium’s red carpet, and three new celebrity jewelry trends emerged to keep the glitter going.
Taking a cue from Michelle Obama’s Inauguration Day outfit, bejeweled necklines made a dazzling appearance on the likes of Eva Longoria in Jenny Packham and H. Stern diamond jewels. January Jones glowed in a Cleopatra-inspired dress from Andrew Gn with gold accents, and the always-fetching Anne Hathaway shimmered in white Azzaro. The Closer, Kyra Sedwick, also made an impression in vintage Chanel and a gorgeous diamond and gemstone statement necklace.
As if channeling the coming of spring, golden ears glittered on the likes of an understated Angelina Jolie in Max Azaria, 30 Rock’s Jane Krakowski, Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss and House beauty, Olivia Wilde.
The evening’s biggest trend came in the guise of something borrowed and something blue. Kate Winslet won the award for Best Supporting Actress for The Reader and our praises for her form-fitting Narciso Rodriguez get-up in electric blue with Chopard jewels. Evan Rachel Wood dropped the goth girl personae for a gorgeous teal off-the-shoulder Monique Lhuillier dress with a diamond eagle brooch and purple accessories. And Desperate Housewives, Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross, accented their looks with deep blue gemstone earrings.
And let’s take a moment to highlight the red carpet jewelry staple du jour – giant earrings. Christina Applegate is no wall flower in Lorraine Schwartz wagon-wheel-sized diamond earrings and an Emanuel Ungaro frock, and Amy Adams rocked the chandelier look in trendy plum. Paula Abdul and Lisa Rhinna also gave us an earful.
From the Golden Globes to the SAGS, it’s clear celebrities are not shying away from making a jewelry statement this awards season.
