Spring may feel like it’s never going to get here, but we’re happy to report this season’s jewelry trends are full of color, glitter and good old fashioned fun – something we could all use a little more of these days.

Check out these four hot jewelry trends flying off the runways, and bling your way into spring with style!

While we would certainly love to “Walk Like an Egyptian” again, the bangle craze sweeping the nation this season isn’t in the guise of an 80s girl band – it’s all in the wrist.

“Bangles are making a comeback,” stylist Edward Enninful told Vogue’s during the Paris couture shows in January.

Designers like Christian Lacroix, Zac Posen and Marc Jacobs all bangled up their lines, and if you haven’t gawked at Madonna’s bangled appendages for the new Louis Vuitton ads, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to see that the iconic bangle wearer has brought the trend well into the 21st century.

Bangles are made from a variety of materials – from affordable plastics to more luxurious precious metals like silver or gold – all good news for us frugalistas who want to stay hip to the trends but not to our falling bank balances.

So whether you want to add a little flair to your “Manic Monday” or clink it up for a night on the town, layered bangles are a trendy, colorful – and most of all – affordable way to make your own jewelry statement for spring.

Cocktail Rings

Cocktail Rings

Remember when cocktail rings were only worn by the likes of your wacky Aunt Florence from Miami? Thankfully, those days are long gone, and the jewelry statement has made a major comeback.

Celebs like Angelina Jolie and Cate Blanchett wear them with pride on the red carpet, and we’ve seen them all over the runway this year from Versace’s bold gold looks to Marc Jacobs’ bohemian-chic stylings.

Cocktail rings generally have an oversized center stone of 3 carats or more and are typically worn on the right hand (any finger will do). They come in two gemstone categories: higher-priced precious stones (rubies, emeralds, sapphires) or the more affordable semi-precious options like citrine, aquamarine, peridot, etc. They also come in a variety of costume options.

Because of their affordable price points and wide style range, cocktail rings are the perfect recessionista accessory. And since the economy will most likely have us wearing that little black dress more often this year, a cocktail ring is the perfect way to add a little more flair to an otherwise basic look. features an affordable selection of cocktail rings in all colors of the rainbow.

Purple Fashion

Purple Reigns

Purples in every incarnation – from fuchsia to lavender, violet to plum – lit up the runways this season, and fine jewelry is following suit. There is a reason President Obama calls it his favorite stripe on the rainbow.

Purple is a powerful color that has long been associated with royalty and nobility. Color psychologists deem purple the color of good judgment and spiritual fulfillment and claim it also fosters peace of mind – something we could all use a little of this year.

Fine jewelry finds purple in amethysts, tanzanite, and some colored topaz and sapphire styles. Choose a fun cocktail ring or a purple colored bangle and get two trends for the price of one!

So whether you do back flips for fuchsia, leap for lilac or get misty over magenta, it’s time to let your purple passion fly in 2009.

Everything Else

Everything but the Kitchen Sink

We couldn’t let this opportunity go by without sharing one of the most fabulous jewelry displays ever to hit the runways. The Paris couture shows last month were full of stately showings that reflected the somber mood around the globe, but top designer, Christian Lacroix, used the occasion to bring us a much different interpretation.

Instead of going with an all-white palette or yet another incarnation of the skirt suit – Lacroix’s runway was literally bursting with color. And the jewelry was a show-stopping display of dinner plate-sized hoop earrings, stacks of mismatched lacquer and crystal cuffs, multiple layerings of giant necklaces, gilded heart-shaped lockets, faux fronds of coral, beaded everything but the kitchen sink…

Clearly, words don’t do the show justice, but’s reviewer comes close:

“(The show) was a pleasure to witness and something to be inspired by. Even if only the very few will own a part of this collection, there’s an idea in there for every fashion watcher: If you’ve got jewelry, it’s time to bring it out and try piling it on all at once.”

So there you have it, jewelry lovers. If you’ve ever been tempted to empty your jewelry box and wear costume jewels with fine diamonds – pearl strands with beaded chokers – right hand rings on every finger – now is your time to shine. Fun and fashion-forward go hand in hand this season, so lighten up your mood and brighten up the room with the jewelry you love to wear most. All at once!
