From May Is Gold Month to Hollywood’s golden girls, yellow gold is making a big splash in the fashion world this season, and according to the catwalks, the hue will have serious staying power well into the fall.

The Fashion Week runways had gold glittering on everything from belts and purses to jackets and dresses. Ralph Lauren designed his Spring Ready-to-Wear collection around the shiny shade with evening gowns, biker jackets and genie pants all glowing in bright gold.

Oscar de la Renta featured waist-high gold belts in his Fall 2009 line (a look our First Lady has been wearing of late), and Lanvin and Christian Lacroix used gold brocaded fabric to bring their lines to life for fall.

Gold jewelry appeared in the guise of large chunky chains, bold statement necklaces and bold gold cuffs, with designers like John Galliano for Dior and Donna Karan using the metal to make their collections shine bright. And aside from being on trend and looking frugalista fabulous, gold jewelry gives us great bang for our hard-earned buck.

According to the World Gold Council,

“In today’s economy gold jewelry is one of the few purchases inspiring consumers’ confidence, because gold retains its financial value as well as its beauty and its long-term fashion relevance.”

So take advantage of the incredible gold jewelry savings during May Is Gold Month right now on and head to the mall to grab a little gold scarf, bag or cocktail dress for your next night out on the town.

It’s time for the metallic maven in all of us to get a gold star!
