Carats A-Kimbo at Cannes

Statement necklaces have been the celebrity trend du jour for over a year now, and when the look finds its way on the most extravagant red carpet event on the calendar? The carat count goes through the roof.

Chopard, one of the Cannes Film Festival’s main sponsors, created 62 couture creations for all the big stars to wear, and the results have been nothing short of gawk-worthy.

Actress, Barbara Mori, sported a Chopard diamond choker so thick she must have had an entire cadre of body guards following her every move. And festival juror, Asia Argento, matched her ‘wow factor’ with a stunning sapphire and diamond Chopard statement of her own at the Vengeance screening last night.

Mariah Carey was in town to support her latest film, Precious, in a diamond Chopard Y-neck with hubby, Nick Cannon in tow. And fellow stateswoman, Paris Hilton, showed up on the party circuit (where else?) with a diva-worthy diamond statement that was, (sorry), totally ‘hot’.

Even though the struggling economy has caused many high-profile bashes to take a rain check this year (Vanity Fair canceled their lauded soiree), and several luxury sponsors, like Swarovski and Louis Vuitton, have opted out or downsized, it’s clear the Cannes red carpet is still a safe haven for the beautiful people to both ‘have it’ and ‘flaunt it’.

Just looking at this lavish line-up has us drooling for more. If you can’t get enough of the carat count, be sure to visit our gallery of Cannes photos on Facebook, and let us know who you think rocked The Croisette or who should have stayed in their hotel room.
