The Jewelry Insider

The stars turned over a new leaf and raised some serious cash at the World Gold Council’s ‘Leaves of Change’ auction last night in the Big Apple. Twelve celebrities designed a glittering collection of leaf-inspired gold jewelry pieces for the event, which brought in tens of thousands of dollars for their favorite charities.

“It’s truly exciting to capitalize on gold’s profound and enduring emotional significance by supporting so many worthy causes,” says Duvall O’Steen, spokesperson for World Gold Council.

A-listers, Marcia Gay Harden and Brooke Shields, wore their leafy yellow gold jewels on the red carpet; Whoopi Goldberg wore her gold necklace on The View earlier in the week; and Dancing With the Stars ringleader, Samantha Harris, showed off her creation on The Insider.

Other stars participating in the worthy cause were Christina Applegate, Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Lena Olin, Rachel Ray, Susan Sarandon, Denzel Washington and none other than Mr. Big himself, Chris Noth.

The celebrities’ designs were brought to life in 18K gold and higher by a leading jewelry designer who donated their time and money to create an exclusive set of three pieces from the celebrity sketch – one for the celebrity, one for the auction, and one for public viewing.

If you’d like to take a look at the leafy luxuries, the entire collection will tour approximately sixteen cities from July to December at Jared, The Galleria of Jewelry store to further raise awareness for the multiple charities.
