The Jewelry Insider

Despite inexcusable sound problems and a near decapitation from a descending set piece (Bret Michaels, you have to hit those marks), the Tony Awards broadcast wowed audiences with show-stopping musical numbers, heart-warming acceptance speeches, and statement-making jewelry to die for.

Stunning chandelier shapes made an appearance on the ears of Best Actress in a Play-winner, Marcia Gay Harden, and a sultry Gina Gershon in vintage Fred Leighton. And the statement makers didn’t stop there, with over-sized necklaces remaining a red carpet trend to watch.

But despite the ‘low-browing’ of Broadway with the recent success of the juke box musical, Rock of Ages, classic glamour came out to shine with the divine Anne Hathaway in Oscar de la Renta and diamond cluster earrings, Edie Falco in colored pearls – a trend to watch according to our editors – and the old pro, Liza with a Z in her trademark black sequins and classic diamond and pearl drops. Her Tony win was one of the night’s many highlights. Her rambling acceptance speech? Notsomuch.

While green on Broadway is often associated with the witchy star of Wicked, last night the hue held court on a stunning Lauren Graham and Tony nominees Martha Plimpton and Josefina Scaglione – both in emerald earrings.

Green with envy? You can grab your own set of emeralds, colored pearls and diamond drops right here on Jewelry.com. And after your shopping spree, you can get a chuckle out of the by-now infamous Bret Michaels Tony incident on YouTube (Not to worry – he’s not seriously injured).

As they say on Broadway, “The show must go on!”
