The Jewelry Insider

April 16, 2010

Move over, Ivanka, there’s a new Trump in the jewelry biz. Find out
the details of Melania’s new jewelry line – and what Ivanka thinks about her
step-mom invading her turf.

Melania Trump is more than just The Donald’s better half – she can now add
jewelry designer to her glittering resume. While many might think the former
model better suited for the charity work and personal appearances she is now
known for, Trump is excited to show the world her inner entrepreneur.

The Melania Timepieces and Jewelry collection will launch on jewelry
juggernaut, QVC, on April 30th with affordable price points climbing no higher than $200. Some of her signature pieces include a braided chain necklace, available
in silver and gold for $40; a cocktail ring featuring a faux ruby surrounded by
faux diamonds for $35; and a chunky silver watch styled like a bracelet for $64.

But Mrs. Trump isn’t the only one in the family with an eye for jewelry.
Ivanka Trump is head of her own successful bauble brand,
The Ivanka Trump Collection, but her line is geared at a more luxury-minded
consumer (price points range from $750 to over $100,000). Ivanka told
The New York Times she and her step-mother never discussed each others’
jewelry ventures, despite the obvious parallels. But they are friends and ‘do
lunch’ together often.

So what does The Donald think of his wife’s new project?

“She’s got an amazing sense of design and an amazing level of intelligence,”
he told The New York Times. “She’s got great ability, and I
want her to run with it.”

We’re guessing even if her efforts fall short of his expectations this
particular Trump won’t be making an appearance in The Boardroom anytime soon.
