Mosquito Jewelry Shines for ‘Malaria No More’

Stephen Webster is more than just Christina Aguilera’s favorite jewelry designer. He’s an edgy artist whose latest project is creature couture for a good cause.

Celebrities like Christina Applegate and Courteney Cox often use jewelry to bring attention to worthy causes that are close to their hearts, and big name designers are getting in on the act. Last year, British jewelry superstar, Stephen Webster, created a ring to support the “Malaria No More” campaign and had Victoria Beckham as his celebrity supporter. He’s back at it again for 2010 with a new piece to support the effort – this time it’s a locket with a glittering mosquito to create buzz for the cause.

According to Luxist, the silver-plated belcher chain necklace holds a red enamel pendant with a diamante encrusted mosquito. It comes in a branded pouch and sells for $163.78 exclusively on ASOS.com. All proceeds go to “Malaria No More UK” – an organization that uses all money raised to fund local malaria treatment programs in Africa. We’re loving the jewelry for a cause craze, and the mosquito design falls perfectly with the ‘bug trend’ that’s all the rage this season.
