The plot thickens for Hollywood’s hottest tabloid star. Will Lindsay Lohan go to jail for stealing jewelry? Get all the latest on Li-Lo here.

According to the Los Angeles Times, actress Lindsay Lohan faces a preliminary hearing on allegations she stole a $2,500 necklace from a Venice jewelry store unless she accepts an offer of no more than 90 days in jail by pleading guilty to grand theft.

The actress has so far refused to consider any time in jail and has insisted she never took anything intentionally. If push comes to shove? She will go to trial, according to their source.

The judge warned Lohan she would either show up at her next court date (on March 25th), enter a plea and get some jail time or not appear at all and the case would be set for a hearing before Judge Stephanie Sautner. The hearing would determine whether there is sufficient evidence to try the case.

What’s worse for Lindsay? Sautner could jail Lohan on violating her probation from a previous drunk driving charge even before a trial on the alleged necklace theft is considered.

Was a $2500 piece of jewelry really worth the trouble? Stay tuned for more Lindsay legal updates in the weeks to come – and check in with the Jewelry Insider for the juice on the other jewelry jams Lindsay’s gotten herself into over the years.
