We’ve got the sparkling scoop on who rocked the bling at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards. Check out the red carpet looks by Katy Perry, Adele, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood and more singing starlets!
The 54th Annual Grammy Awards aired Sunday night, and while the mood was somber over the loss of Whitney Houston, the show went on. When it came to jewelry we saw some ongoing trends hit the red carpet, as well as some new ones we love and some we hope we never see again.
Yellow gold jewelry continues to rule the red carpet in the bling department. Especially during the cool, gray winter months gold jewelry is a great way to brighten up any ensemble without overdoing it. All eyes were on Rihanna Sunday night, and we’re glad she brought the bling! Accompanying her jaw-dropping custom Armani gown was a Jacquie Aiche body necklace (love!) that hung around her neck and draped around the small of her back and Neil Lane gold jewelry that included a snake armlet, cuff and several rings.
Fergie left very little to the imagination with a bright orange sheer lace Jean Paul Gaultier gown with black undergarments that were more than visible. This gown, the ‘tamer’ of her two options, was accessorized with gold Neil Lane hoop earrings and a cuff.
Alicia Keys stuck to one piece of statement jewelry by topping her Alexandre Vathier dress with a gold collar necklace.
Half of country duo Thompson Square, Shawna Thompson brightened her look with gold jewels including a Carrera y Carrera gold paisley ring, 15-carat diamond bubble earrings by Diamonds in the Rough and a gold cuff by Isharya.
While it may not fall under the category of jewelry, another trend we saw were stars taking the gold to their waists with shiny gold belts. Guiliana Rancic, Paris Hilton, Esperanza Spalding, and Gwyneth Paltrow were among the stars glowing in gold.
Huge statement earrings continue to top the trend charts at these award shows, and the Grammys were no different. Katy Perry might be the only person on Earth who can rock a head-to-toe blue hue, but we couldn’t take our eyes off the sparkling diamonds swinging from her ears. The pop star wore $1.6 million Asscher-cut diamond earrings and a $350,000 diamond bracelet by Norman Silverman. The night really did belong to Adele, who stole the show when it came to awards and was noted as one of the best dressed of the evening. The Grammy winner sparkled in a sequin-covered Armani gown and, of course, Harry Winston diamond earrings and ring. Former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland paired an exquisite silver embroidered Alberta Ferretti gown with multi-color diamond earrings and rings by Lorraine Schwartz. Carrie Underwood sparkled on the red carpet with a white, long-sleeved Gomez-Garcia gown paired with Johnathon Arndt diamond earrings. Some of Hollywood’s finest stepped away from the diamond earring trend with other statement earrings. Jessie J played up the glam with a mirror-like Julien Macdonald gown accompanied with Mawi earrings and ring. Kate Beckinsale and Hilary Scott of Lady Antebellum also wore dark statement earrings.
While the Grammy Awards are sure to bring out the bling among the music industry, we are always left questioning the choices of a few stars. Once again, Nicki Minaj leaves us speechless and not in a good way. Robyn and Sasha Gravida both accessorized in ways that have us screaming, “NEVER AGAIN!”
For future reference – next year, leave the machine gun couture at home.
