Fall is here which means three major happenings for us fashion/jewelry fanatics: NYFW, the fall fashion September issues and the release of the new Pantone colors to be trending for 2015. Pantone, the color authority on fashion, interiors and design predict a whole new tonal territory for next spring. Think soft shades and cooler chromes as pastels are making a victorious comeback. Those high definition hues that have been coating literally every runway collection are dated like the ’90s and an ethereal palette of colors like Tangerine, Toasted Almond and Strawberry Ice are set to be a fashion tour de force*. Let’s take a look at some of next season’s hottest colors and how to work them into your covetable jewelry collectables…

AQUAMARINE… “The lead color for women for the Spring/Summer 2015 season, PANTONE 14-4313 Aquamarine is an airy blue with a dreamy feel. Cool and calming, ethereal Aquamarine is a shade with a wet and watery feel. Open and expansive, this restful blue also acts as a stress reducer.”

SCUBA BLUE…”An invigorating turquoise, PANTONE 16-4725 Scuba Blue conveys a sense of carefree playfulness.Even though a cool shade, the vibrancy of Scuba Blue adds a splash of excitement to the palette. Scuba Blue offers a feeling of escape as it is reminiscent of a tropical ocean. This stirring and energizing shade takes us off to an exotic paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy.”

CUSTARD…”Just as the name implies, PANTONE 13-0720 Custard is a delicious and delectable yellow.Sweet and sunny, Custard is a cheering tone that brings thoughts of pleasant relaxation and comfort food. Engaging with its soft and mellow warmth and full of good feelings, subtle Custard has an affable and easy disposition.”

MARSALA…”Interesting on its own and a wonderful contrast for other hues, PANTONE 18-1438 Marsala serves as the foundation to the Spring/Summer 2015 palette. Sensual and bold, delicious Marsala is a daringly inviting tone that nurtures; exuding confidence and stability while feeding the body, mind and soul. Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this robust shade incorporates the warmth and richness of a tastefully fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots point to a sophisticated, natural earthiness.”

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015-Jewelry Recap

 FashionWK_S15_blog_20140912_a

New York Fashion Week has come to a bittersweet end, but for us jewelry mavens we’re in for another three weeks of a high octane hayride of bling, ball gowns and game-changing glamor. Top designers included newcomers like Rosie Assoulin and Delpozo sharing the spotlight with mainstays like Michael Kors and Oscar de la Renta. Athletic wear went opulent while punchy prints took to new level, and wide-leg trousers worked the catwalk.  Meanwhile, for us jewelry hounds with designers like Reem Acra and Tory Burch lending a new look to sequined sophistication, statement sparklers were sparse but when present, explosive. Let’s take a look at the bountiful amount of bling coating the runways with the top five trends to watch out for in S/S 2015….

FashionWK_S15_blog_20140912_b

1. Go Big or Go Home…Betsey Johnson the renowned queen of quirk topped off her wedding-inspired ensembles with  an explosion of ornamentation. From crystalline embellished necklaces spelling the word “PRENUP” to a seascape of pearls and beads igniting the neckline, this show could be described as a case of full-blown bling.

2. The Brooch Factor… From Oscar de la Renta’s deliciously delicate brooches to Rodarte’s sea urchin applique, We foresee a future brimming with brooches along the the neckline or anywhere that needs a pop of sculptural allure. FashionWK_S15_blog_20140912_e FashionWK_S15_blog_20140912_f 3. Floral Drops…The forever feminine floral drop is here to stay (thank god), but with an elegantly crafted update. The notorious OdlR (Oscar de la Renta) and Altuzarra styled their models with intricately sculpted posies in stark monochromes. FashionWK_S15_blog_20140912_g FashionWK_S15_blog_20140912_h 4. The Haute Collar…Collars of all kinds were the statement accent for NYFW.  Ralph Lauren, Narcisco Rodriguez and Anna Sui celebrated the return of this bejeweled classic. From graphic and chunky to an endless mosaic of gems, the collar is destined to be an instant style enhancer.

Celebrity Jewelry Re-Hash: 2014 Emmy Awards

emmys_blog_20140827_a

Carats, Color & Crimson, was the method & madness to the 2014 Emmys Red Carpet looks. From Christina Hendrick’s Geranium Red Strapless Gown to Kate Walsh’s eye-searing lemon sculpted ankle scraper, high-definition hues were all the rage. And, what better way to work your technicolor accoutrement than with a cosmos of blinding white sapphires & diamonds. Check out our list of the Best and Worst Bejeweled for 2014.

Best

Kate Walsh

Seeped in an ever-so elegantly sculpted Stephane Rolland Couture gown and Stuart Weitzman shoes, Walsh donned a stream of round-cut, pear and marquise diamonds totaling in 95.05 carats, accented by 6.36 carat round-cut diamond studs.  By choosing a silhouette of all white diamonds this not only illuminated her look but gave the contours and complexities of her gown a graceful accent. If she had chosen for examples emeralds or a ruby necklace this may have taken away from the gown and more appropriate for a strictly fashion-focused event like the Met Ball.

Sarah Hyland

Professed a new style of the princess-look with an ultra contemporary twist. Rocking a Christian Siriano white spaghetti-strap square neck crop top and flowing skirt painted in papaya. Hyland chose pink gold & white diamond Lorraine Schwartz earrings which punctuated her ballerina bun codifying this as one effortlessly high-octane look.

emmys_blog_20140827_d

Claire Daines

Claire Daines took Emmy jewelry to new sculptural proportions ablaze in ruby butterflies resting along her neckline designed by Lorraine Schwartz. Twinkling ruby studs faultlessly finished off the actor’s poppy Givenchy lace overlay gown.

emmys_blog_20140827_e

Sofia Vergara

Aside from a stunning spectacle of jewels adoring the necklines and wrist lines of celebrities like Lizzy Kaplan & Laverne Cox, Sofia Vergara stole the scene basking in a strapless Roberto Cavalli gown and bedecked in Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. Mesh drops lengthened her look while emerald cocktail sparklers added enhanced her sun kissed silhouette and Red Carpet power lip.

emmys_blog_20140827_g

Worst

Natasha Lyonne

Although Natasha Lyonne was decorously divine in her custom made Opening Ceremony gown,  her jewelry choices seemed last minute.  Firstly, stackable rings (like the one on her index finger) need to be layered and not left to fend against that architecturally tweaked statement sparkler (on middle finger). Secondly,  the floral rosette bracelet and single gold bangle clashed violently with everything else, paling in comparison  to Lyonne’s ring bling.

emmys_blog_20140827_h

Christina Hendricks

Louis XIV must be twerking in his grave with the ungaudley proportions of glitz and gold. Although high glam and kitsch are having a moment right now in fashion, caking on every god forsaken piece of gold doesn’t work with either fashion formula. From 17th century France to the Real Housewives of New Jersey we all know red + gold = THE arranged marriage for celebrating status and wealth. I’m not knocking her entire style but if she had just cancelled one of her arm parties, and opted for chandelier earrings with more fluid lines to keep her look streamlined.  Nonetheless, I’m still an unabashed fan of Christina because of her statement looks, but this was not a favorite

The jewelry and fashion worlds are mourning the loss of the divine Miss Lauren Bacall. Iconic for her sultry eyes, ash blond wavy hair neatly parted at the side, Lauren Bacall was a Hollywood legend and an innate style savoire flair.

Coveralls,  Marlene trousers, and diaphanous gowns codified her look, but it was her eclectic jewelry collection that made the statement. At the tender age of 16, Bacall was discovered by fashion icon, Diana Vreeland, which then kickstarted her storied film career. Lauren Bacall was an avid jewelry collector, coveting designers like Van Cleef & Arpels, Swarovski, David Webb and Grima.

From bold brooches like a white enamel David Webb Maltese cross to delicate string of Deltah pearls (later Imperial Pearl), Bacall’s collection as testament to American style: bold, effortless and elegant.

As part of our new series Monday Muses exploring Divine Demimondaines known for their opulent collection of jewelry and fashion, today we’ll examine the fabulous life of turquoise provocateur Millicent Rogers.

Born in 1902 as an heiress to Standard Oil, Millicent (add that to your list of cheeky Brooklyn-hipster baby names) was known for her exotic fashions and immense turquoise collection. From Schiaparelli-designed Tyrolean outfits to seeped in sable with her Anna Karenina ensembles, Rogers was a fashion force to be reckoned with.

Once at a ball in the Ritz Hotel, New York, Diana Vreeland once recalled Rogers changing in the middle of the event as a result of having sat on ice cream. The over-the-top heiress even had Charles James (currently at the Metropolitan Museum of Art) design an entire wardrobe for her. Whats your favorite look and who are some of your favorite jewelry muses? Weigh in and our editors will consider your choice for next week’s post!

After retiring in New Mexico Rogers created her own jewelry collection paying homage to turquoise.  For those of you heading Southwest,  you can see all of the pieces she designed at her very own Millicent Rogers Museum which has over a whopping 1,000 pieces of jewelry from her collection which you can check out below.

Fall 2014 Jewelry Trends

Fall 2014 jewelry trend alert!

It’s almost time for jeans and boots, sweaters and scarves, the infamous pumpkin spice latte, and the latest fall jewelry trends (we always save the best for last!). This upcoming season’s jewelry trends mix classic with eclectic, functional with fun – you’re bound to try out at least one (or all) of these new jewelry fads, and look fabulous doing it.

Floral Jewelry: We know what you’re thinking. Wasn’t this a Spring 2014 jewelry trend? Yes, you avid JewelryInsider reader (we’re flattered)! You are correct – floral jewelry was a big deal this last spring, but this season it’s taking a slightly different direction. Spring’s floral jewelry was a bit wild and large. Fall’s floral jewelry is a bit more reserved (just a bit) with a contemporary flair. Don’t shy away from a “3D” flower necklace worn just along the neckline, as seen in Dolce and Gabbana’s fall 2014 ready-to-wear runway show.

Statement Bracelets: Lucky Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Eva Chen recently appeared on Good Morning America to talk about the hottest trends of the upcoming season. Of course we tuned in and guess what was on her list? That’s right, statement bracelets! We are huge fans of this trend, mainly because there’s no need to limit yourself to just one bracelet. Stack em’ up! The more the merrier.

Singular Earrings: There was quite a bit of commentary over Angelina Jolie’s one earring look at the Maleficent premier, and now it’s one of the hottest fall 2014 jewelry trends! We’ll have you know, we never doubted her jewelry choices one bit. This new craze is exactly how it sounds – wear one singular earring instead of two.

One jewelry trend we’ve recently spotted on the celebs is men’s jewelry (because you know everyone likes to accessorize, and not just us ladies!). From iconic jewelry wearers like Johnny Depp to heartthrobs like Brad Pitt, everyone’s wearing jewelry! Check out the photos below of some well-known male celebs rocking some serious bling. Dare we say we could get a style tip (or two) from these trendsetting men…?

Jennifer Aniston’s hunky fiancé Justin Theroux (can you believe he’s 45?!) just recently graced the cover of Details magazine with a unique gun necklace. Justin is starring in a new TV series called ‘The Leftovers’ and is also a screenwriter.

Johnny Depp is pretty much the king of accessories. He always wears a mish-mosh of accessories and pulls it off effortlessly. Johnny’s got the necklace-layering trend down pat.
