The 70th Annual Golden Globes aired last night, kicking off awards season with color trends, jewelry standouts and snore-fests, and the return of the diamond necklace. Looks from Anne, Julianne, Taylor and more right here.
The jewelry world can finally take a big sigh of relief – the diamond necklace has made its way back to the red carpet, and we didn’t even need to look through Lindsay Lohan’s jewelry box to find them! From co-host Amy Poehler’s 83-carat diamond lariat necklace by Chopard to Jessica Alba’s insane $5.7 million diamond necklace by Harry Winston that had the twittersphere going nuts, diamonds ’round the neck made a great showing. Olivia Munn and Sally Field also rocked gorgeous diamond necklaces.
Bangles continue to have a good showing on the red carpet, and it looks like more is more (and who doesn’t love that?)! Debra Messing, Connie Britton, Julianne Moore, Isla Fisher, Rachel Weisz and Hayden Panettiere were among the stars working the wrist-wear.
Huge, door knocker earrings are no stranger to awards season, and last night’s Golden Globes brought an array of sparkling diamonds, elegant emeralds, and colorful, unique gemstones hanging on the lobes of TV and film’s leading ladies. Taylor Swift wore a plum Donna Karan Atelier gown and paired it with statement making Lorraine Schwartz earrings of the same color. Naomi Watts also paired her burgundy Zac Posen number with red danglers from Lorraine Schwartz. Julie Bowen and Megan Fox went for light pink-tones jewels while Glenn Close and Michelle Dockery were elegant in emerald. Other earlobe dangling standouts included Rosario Dawson, Debra Messing, Jennifer Garner, Jane Lynch and Heidi Klum. Golden Globe winner Jennifer Lawrence and George Clooney’s main squeeze went sleek with diamond stick earrings.
It’s not a red carpet event if there’s not a smattering of less-than-impressive, ho-hum dainty diamond moments. What we did not expect was there to be lackluster diamond performance from Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway and Lena Dunham – all big winners last night. Others who took us on a trip to Snoresville were Lucy Liu, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sienna Miller, Eva Longoria, and Hayden Panettiere (we were really counting on you, Hayden).
A quick scan across last night’s red carpet and one would quickly think they walked into a funeral with the amount of black gowns we saw! We can appreciate making a statement with a bold, black gown, but it’s not much of a statement when over 20 of your peers had the same idea. Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen, Adele in Burberry, Sofia Vergara in Very Wang, Katharine McPhee in Olivier Theyskens for Theory, and Julianna Margulies in Emilio Pucci were joined by many other stars donning black gowns.
Once again, stars dressed to match the carpet they walked across as radiant red had a huge showing. Jennifer Lawrence in Dior, Claire Danes in Versace, Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta, Naomi Watts in Zac Posen and Marion Cotillard in Dior Haute Couture were among those glowing and red hot!
A breath of fresh air came over the red carpet in the blush colored hues of many starlets’ gowns. A color that most cannot wear, the likes of Meghan Fox, Hayden Panettiere, Amy Adams and Kaley Cuoco rocked the rosy hue with confidence.
And you know we have to leave you with a memorable jewelry moment – and this year is courtesy of Julianne Hough – dancer, singer, actress and now – bug blinger! She rocked this REAL beetle stud earring and REAL praying mantis ear cuff. Yikes! She wears bugs in her ear, dates Ryan Seacrest – what CAN’T this girl do?
