Michelle Obama’s designer jewelry sparkled on Inauguration Day. From her blingy diamond bangles, to diamond-embellished Jason Wu gown, we’ve got all the blinging details from D.C.
At an inauguration eve gala Sunday Night, President Obama jokingly mentioned Michelle’s new bangs were “the most significant event of the weekend,” according to USA Today. So we want to know – Who’s joking? A historic moment like this can only mean Mrs. O is bringing her FLOTUS fashion to the forefront!
The Inaugural Weekend kicked off with President Obama swearing into Office Sunday, with Michelle by his side, holding the Bible and wearing a dark blue Reed Krakoff dress. That night at an inaugural reception she paired a black sequin Michael Kors dress (a repeat from 2009) with a sparkling stack of Mizuki bangles and a bracelet by Colette.
Monday morning the first lady sophisticatedly donned a Thom Browne silk coat and dress and jewelry by Cathy Waterman that was only seen when a breeze brushed her hair back, but she redeemed herself by accessorizing with a bejeweled J. Crew belt.
Where there’s a Wu there’s a way, right? Michelle O. concluded her hubby’s big day by rocking the Inaugural ball with this radiant ruby colored chiffon and velvet gown by none other than Jason Wu, the then-new-emerging-designer who designed her first inaugural gown four years ago (as if we could forget that white one-shoulder number!). The gown’s neckline consisted of a handmade diamond embellished ring by jeweler Kimberly McDonald, who coordinated with Wu on the design. And we can’t forget the stack of diamond bangles ’round her wrist.
All in all, Mrs. O’s jewelry selection did not top 2009’s Inaugural bling, nor the 2012 State Dinner wear she rocked some serious Tom Binns neckwear, but we still believe she’s the ultimate FLOTUS for fashionistas and jewelry hounds like us!
Other notable jewelry sightings included Sasha Obama, Beyonce and Alicia Keyes.
