Oscars 2015 Jewelry Recap

1. Man Bling

Bling was the new black this year in men’s suiting. From Elton John to John Travolta, the fellas gave the dark tuxes and classically conservative looks of yesteryear, a run for their money. Not only were shawl collar jackets a thing, but pinsrings and chain links put the bold in bling. If you didn’t think John Travolta’s touch-feely moments with Menzel weren’t awkward enough, then his hardcore chain link necklace sealed the deal. On the other hand, David Oyelowo’s tasteful and elegantly designed pin for Ebola put the perfect touch to his crisply tailored suit.

2. Oscar Color: Pink Party

Blushing pinks and soft papaya’s won as the red carpet color for the 2015 Oscars. Fresh, modern and ultra feminine Anna Kendrick became the poster girl for coral in her Thakoon column dress while Zoe Saldana looked glowing in a blush Versace gown. Icy white diamonds and brilliant crystalline accents of all kinds provided the perfect complement to this light hearted-hue.

3. Pearls Going Rogue

Pearls, revered to be jewelry’s demure, good girl classic, got a radically new makeover this red carpet season by way of Lupita. It took a whopping 6,000 pearls to make the actor’s custom-made Calvin Klein column gown, pushing statement gowns to the next stratosphere. Felicity Jones came in as a close runner-up with a pearl embellished bodice that polished off her Alexander McQueen gown.

4. Statement Necklaces

After Scarlett Johansson’s lush green beaded collar and Cate Blanchett’s piercingly blue turquoise bib, we may need a new term for the statement necklace. This year, these jaw-dropping sparklers were either a saturated symphony of gems and beads or decadently styled pendants like Margot Robbie’s $720,000 Van Cleef & Arpel’s vintage necklace (originally created for the Duchess of Windsor).

5. Big Earrings

Larger than life drops, shimmering chandeliers and orbital-sized hoops proved to be a fave among celebrities. From ear crawlers like Jenna Dewan’s Lorraine Schwartz sparklers to America Ferrera’s Irene Neuwirth drops, earring styles differed greatly. Just be sure the earrings match the dress.
