Wedding bells are in the air – for three well-known celebrities in particular! Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte proposed to Playboy model Kayla Rae Reid with a gorgeous cushion-cut diamond ring. Samara Wiley from “Orange Is The New Black” (OITNB) is now engaged to her girlfriend Lauren Morelli, who is a writer on the show, and Laura Prepon, also from OITNB showcased her new bling from Ben Foster at The Girl on The Train premiere.
Congrats are in order! Duchess Kate’s younger sister, Pippa Middleton, is now engaged to financier James Matthews, and is planning a wedding for next year. Her ring is a gorgeous vintage/art deco design, which features a stunning Asscher-cut diamond. While the ring’s designer and details haven’t been released yet, jewelry experts have estimated that the center stone totals 3 ct, and the surrounding stones add an additional estimated 1.5 ct to the ring. We are 100% gawking over her new bling (who wouldn’t be?)!
Whether or not you’re a fan of “The Bachelor,” we’re sure you’ve heard the news – bachelor Ben Higgins chose bubbly, blonde Lauren Bushnell over sassy, brunette JoJo Fletcher as the winner! Ben proposed to Lauren with a gorgeous Neil Lane engagement ring worth $95,000 and a total of 4.6 carats. The diamond stunner includes a square-cut center stone, surrounded by tiny diamonds, all set in platinum. Lauren B., you are one lucky lady!
If you’re feeling bad for JoJo, don’t worry – her journey of love will continue on the next season of “The Bachelorette!”
Bachelor fans, what do you think, did Ben make the right choice?
Have you been gifted a piece of jewelry that’s just not your style? Do you own a family heirloom (grandma’s old engagement ring) that’s a little too vintage for your liking? Instead of re-gifting or re-selling your jewelry, why not have your diamond reset. Here are a few things to consider before resetting your jewelry.
Find a reputable jeweler – Do your research and find a trustworthy jeweler who specializes in resetting. When choosing your jeweler, make sure he or she understands exactly what you are looking for.
Get your diamond graded – It’s never a bad idea to have your diamond graded by a professional such as IGI or GIA. They will supply you with a certificate that will help to identify your diamond when you get it back from the jewelers.
Stones can be reset into different types of jewelry – It’s a common myth that diamonds can only be reset into rings. If rings aren’t your thing, take that pretty diamond of yours and reset it into a new necklace or bracelet.
Be creative – Here’s your chance to get those creative juices flowing and become a jewelry designer for the day. If grandma’s diamond from her old engagement ring was set in white gold and it’s not your metal of choice, why not reset the diamond in some bright yellow gold or trendy rose gold. Some diamonds and gemstones shine just a little more when reset in a different shade of gold.
The 84-year-old jewelry thief extraordinaire, Doris Payne fooled us again with her latest steal, a $33,000 engagement ring at David Yurman in Charlotte, North Carolina. Payne has spanned a seasoned, sixty three year career stealing from famous jewelry houses and can count Switzerland, Greece and even Japan as some of her prime hotspots.
Born in 1930 in Slab Fork, West Virginia, Payne grew up poor and struggled as a working class mother. Payne’s first score was when she was a child swiping a watch from her local jeweler. Payne quickly worked her way stealing from upscale department stores, major jewelers like Tiffany & Co. and even stole a 10 1/2 ct diamond in Monte Carlo. Totally fascinated? Well, the legendary jewelry thief dubbed ‘Diamond Doris’ was even the subject of a documentary, The Life and Times of Doris Payne.
As jewelry enthusiasts, we have some major love for diamonds (we know you do too!). We know you value your diamond jewelry, which is why it’s so important to care for your diamonds properly and understand diamond insurance, appraisals, and certificates. Just think, what would you do if your engagement ring chipped or was stolen…! Get in the know with the below information.
Insurance – Get those diamonds insured! There are several ways to insure your diamonds. If you’re a homeowner, you can purchase an extension on your homeowners’ policy. Another option is through a jewelry retailer who offers insurance, but make sure you do your research and compare plans first! The last way is to insure through a company that specializes in jewelry insurance such as Jewelers Mutual.
Appraisals – All insurers require an appraisal document. This document contains diamond information including a description, the diamond value, sales tax (this may or may not be included), treatment information, inscriptions, and at times other documentation located in an addendum. The value of a diamond is calculated by a number of factors such as the 4 Cs (cut, color, clarity, and carat weight), current retail prices, the metal weight, the origin of the materials, and the craftsmanship and design of the piece.
Certificate – A diamond certificate (cert) is also known as a diamond grading report and proves a diamond exists. A cert includes the carat weight, measurements, grades for the 4 Cs, and additional information such as an image of the diamond showing its inclusions. A cert created by a gem lab is much more accurate than a cert created by an individual involved with the diamond sale.

The weather’s getting warmer, and you know what that means – it’s time to start planning for those warm-weather vacas! We don’t know about you, but for us, the hardest part of vacation (other than having to come home) is packing. We’ll admit that we’re slight over packers, but hey, we’re working on it, and over the years we’ve gathered a few great packing tips. Here are three travel jewelry essentials to pack for that upcoming vacation.
Jewelry Basics – Since you’ll most likely be traveling with a number of different outfit options, try to pack some basic jewelry pieces that will match with the majority of your outfits. For instance, bring along a pair of simple studs or a plain bangle. Depending on where you’re going, you might also want to consider packing less expensive pieces that you can easily replace if they’re lost or stolen. Take a look at our suggestions in the photo below, and shop for your own jewelry basics at Jewelry.com.
Statement Jewelry – Vacation is a special occasion, and statement jewelry is always perfect for a special occasion. Make sure to pack one or two fun pieces of statement jewelry, like some colorful earrings or that cocktail ring you haven’t taken out of the box. We have some great suggestions in the photo below that can be purchased at Jewelry.com.
Wedding Band & Engagement Ring Alternatives – If you’ve got a clunker of an engagement ring or an expensive wedding band, it might be a good idea to leave them at home, and wear an alternative ring while on vacation. Of course this depends on where you are traveling to, but it’s always smart to be extra cautious when traveling with your favorite jewelry pieces! Rock a gemstone or Swarovski ring, or a simpler band. Check out our suggestions in the photo below, and get your ring-alternatives at Jewelry.com.
Happy and safe travels!

Schwartz designed the celeb couple’s wedding bands herself. Kim’s ring was a handmade diamond band, while Kanye’s was a handmade gold band. Kim accessorized her wedding outfit with her 15 carat Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring, and a pair of Martin Katz 18K gold diamond earrings accented by 100 smaller diamonds. The earrings were actually a present Kanye gave Kim more than a year ago. Aw!

Celebrity jeweler, Neil Lane, never met a Hollywood wedding he didn’t bedazzle, so his client list is long and loaded with heavy hitters like Ellen Degeneres, Nicole Richie and the entire Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise.
Last Thursday, the designer celebrated his new, moderately priced bridal collection with Kay Jewelers at a Hollywood fete, and the red carpet was loaded with leading ladies.
The ‘cutest couple’ award goes to Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, who showed off their Neil Lane wedding bands.
I think the Neil Lane Bridal collection is the perfect way for humble grooms to give a celebrity twist to the bended knee ritual thanks to prices that are hundreds of thousands less than a typical Lane look.
