Kristen Stewart’s Promise Ring Buzz

Did you hear? Twilight hunk Robert Pattinson gave co-star and sweetheart, Kristen Stewart, a ring last week! (And you thought the budget brouhaha in Washington was big news.)

While Twi-hards will be disappointed to learn that the rumored ring is not, in fact, an engagement ring – it is a rock that comes with relationship strings.

According to Hollwoodgossip.com, R-Pats threw down a whopping $17,000 for a vintage promise ring and is just “waiting for the right time to give it to her.”

A source said, “The ring is rose-cut diamonds set in rose gold. It’s a very feminine piece of jewelry and very old. The diamonds aren’t huge, and it doesn’t look like an engagement ring. [He] found it through a dealer who specializes in estate jewelry, and he knew it was just perfect for Kristen.”

He’s not proposing, though. But the snitch is convinced that he would, if Kristen were on board for it.

I haven’t heard much about the use of ‘promise rings’ these days, but it’s heart-warming to know the tradition continues even with A-listers like this Tween dream couple. It’s also nice to hear that rose gold is still a hot trend for all the metal mavens out there.

Rose Gold Ring with Diamonds

Rose gold, for the uninitiated, is a gold and copper alloy also known as pink gold or red gold (depending on the amount of copper in the mix).

Rose-cut diamonds were introduced as early as the 1500’s and were popular until the early 1900’s – so you see them a lot in vintage pieces like the one Rob apparently selected.

Everything’s certainly coming up roses for Kristen Stewart these days. I’ll be on the lookout for her rosy ring pics – so stay tuned!

In the meantime, do you guys see promise rings making a comeback out there? Is this a new trend or a sweet gesture from a bygone era?

Rock Like ‘The Runaways’

Jewelry hounds, I have one question for you: Does it get any cooler than The Runaways?

I have secretly always wanted to be either: a) Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders or b) Cheri Curie from The Runaways (I don’t attempt to be as cool as Joan Jett – even in my dreams). So when news of The Runaways movie hit my ears, I was more than a little excited.

I haven’t seen the flick yet, but flipped through pics of the Los Angeles premiere and got inspired to marry my two passions together. The result? A little grrrl group jewelry primer to help us all get in touch with our inner rock star.

Girl Rock Glitz

The Go Gos, The Bangles, The Donnas – girl groups have one band to thank for paving the way. The Runaways merged 70s glam rock with Elvis-inspired throw backs – all wrapped in a package no one had ever seen before. Grab this guitar pendant from Macy’s or this bolt pendant from Zales to get the glitter going in your own jewelry box.

Ch-Ch-Cherry Bomb!

Lead singer, Cherie Curie, made her namesake fruit famous with their monster hit, Cherry Bomb (nab it on itunes if you don’t already have it in your arsenal). Pay homage to the blonde bombshell with this fruity pendant from Sears or these Betsey Johnson drop earrings that, well, say it all.

Joan Jett Jewels

A rock and roller through and through the signature jewel that says Joan has got to be the studded leather cuff. Nordies has several great styles to choose from to help you own up to that ‘Bad Reputation’. Or grab this black beaded sequin necklace like the one she wore to the premiere.

Jewelry a No-Show at Twilight Premiere

Twi-hards screamed, photogs jostled, and celebrities littered the red carpet of the Twilight: New Moon premiere in Los Angeles last night. At long last, the vampire sensation is unleashing its next installment on the teen set and the parents who love them – and the party was a big one.

Unfortunately, the jewelry fashion wasn’t as important as an Edward sighting or a Bella scowl. Speaking of, the ‘Bella’ of the ball – Kristen Stewart – showed up in a stunning Oscar de la Renta gown but wore nary a jewel (ok, a few bangles – but whatever). And, well, despite how much I LOVE the fact that she’s playing Joan Jett in the upcoming Runaways movie – she’s got this Ellen Page-esque aversion to glam that -well – disappoints me. She’s a stunner and could have turned it up a notch this go-round. Just my two cents.

Co-stars, Dakota Fanning and Nikki Reed looked adorable and Jennie Garth and Ashley Green made a glittering showing – but overall, I found the female fashions to be less than gawk-worthy considering the huge phenomenon this has turned out to be. Am I right?

Taylor and Rob, on the other hand? Um, yeah, I get it America. To die…

Oh, and how could I forget to peddle to Twilight: New Moon jewelry line – already a strong seller for Nordies?

MTV Movie Awards – A Jewelry Fashion Round Up

Yellow gold, blue gemstones and layered bangles were the top three jewelry trends emerging from the MTV Movie Awards last night, as teen idols from a sultry Vanessa Hudgens to a sophisticated Miley Cyrus rocked the red carpet

Teen vampire phenomenon, Twilight, took most of the top honors, with a gawky Kristen Stewart looking like she might vomit every time she took the stage – even dropping her golden popcorn statue when accepting her Best Female Performance award.

Maybe the spotlight is shining too brightly these days? (See Susan Boyle’s recent treatment for ‘exhaustion’ for further reference).

Laughs came fast and hard, with host, Andy Samburg at the helm (his reaction to Miley’s acceptance speech was priceless!).

But perhaps the best moment of the night came in the guise of a floating set of bare butt cheeks. Namely the ones Sasha Baron Cohen planted on a not-so enthused Eminem’s face. A pre-planned gag or a surprise attack? You be the judge.

Thankfully the fashion police didn’t much have their work cut out for them, as the MTV set rocked it out in sequined minis, cowl neck classics and a good amount of bling.
Vanessa Hudgins made her peach Max Azria shine with layered yellow gold pendants and bangles, and stars like Megan Fox and Paris Hilton followed suit with their own gold statements.

Blue gemstone made their way on the likes of Ashley Tisdale, Sandra Bullock and Malin Ackerman, and diamond divas included Stephanie Pratt, Hayden Panettiere and Leighton Meister, with diamond cuffs making a strong showing.

And while I could do without Cameron Diaz’s blue boots, Sandra Bullocks’s black tights and Kristen Stewart’s nervous tics, I’ll leave the freaking out to the Twilight fans. And Eminem.
