Mariah Carey’s Ring Pop Bling

As yet another celebrity couple pretends to profess their undying love for one another in a vow renewal ceremony, there’s really one explanation for the trend: it’s an excuse to buy more diamonds.

From Heidi Klum & Seal to Tori & Dean, vow renewal ceremonies are all the rage in Hollywood – but it was Nick Cannon & Mariah Carey’s re-walk down the aisle last month that brought out bling worthy of a lower jaw drop moment.

We all remember the 17-carat pink diamond engagement ring Nick gave to the diva – now she has a sparkling pink candy ring to match. The custom-made ring pop bling from Jason of Beverly Hills is made out of diamonds and pink sapphires in a white gold setting and comes in a special box with a spinner so Miss Mariah can see it sparkle under the lights. Wheeeee!!!

“This is for fun. This is what we do for toys. At some point you’ve gotta have a sense of humor about all of this. A sense of humor with diamonds,” Nick explained.

I’m laughing on the inside, Nick.

What do you guys think of this ‘vow renewal’ trend? And how about that ‘candy’ ring??

It wasn’t a jewelry blow-out like we diamond-obsessed folks hope for, but The People’s Choice Awards did reveal some classy jewels, new color trends and a peak at awards show glamour-to -come.

Winter white, strapless cocktail frocks and one-shoulder gowns were the fashion trends that emerged (kindof a snore, but classic). A-list staples (Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman) mixed with the up-and-comers (T-Swift, Ginnifer Goodwin, etc.) – and Mariah Carey provided yet another cringe-worthy appearance complete with an unwalkable gown choice, diamond overload and rambling nonsense in the guise of an acceptance speech.

Nick Cannon? Make it stop.

Jewelry style was appealing and uneventful – with Tarji P. Henson providing the night’s biggest lower jaw drop moment: a gemstone cocktail ring the size of a hockey puck. Love the color. Love the gown. Love it all.

Who wore your favorite look of the night? Sandra Bullock in a nude Vivienne Westwood number with barely there jewels? Taylor Swift in winter white and Neil Lane? Weigh in!

Diamond jewelry was out in full force at the Palm Springs International Film Festival yesterday, which makes sense since the Opening Night Gala was sponsored by Cartier.

And while the likes of Dame Helen Mirren, Oscar winner-Marion Cotillard, and the next Anne Hathaway – the divine Anna Kendrick (run, don’t walk to see her in Up In the Air), graced us with their presence and sported stunning jewelry with their couture – you have to leave it to Miss Mimi to really class up the joint.

Mariah Carey, who was given the Breakthrough Actress Award for her performance in Precious, appeared on the red carpet in more diamond bling than a Liberace convention. Witness the wind-catcher earrings, the diamond cuffs, the butterfly right hand ring – AND of course her 17-carat pink diamond engagement ring from hubby, Nick Cannon.

But it wasn’t her carat-count that had tongues wagging. Nope. It was her drunken, rambling acceptance speech that will now appear next to ‘cringe’ in the dictionary. You know it’s bad when Sean Penn quipped before handing out a music award to songwriter-producer T Bone Burnett,

“Think anything’s going to make YouTube tonight?”

Yup. It did. And you can see a snippet of the action here.

Ahhh, Awards Season begins again! Stay tuned for People’s Choice Awards coverage here and on Jewelry.com tomorrow!

With all the buzz about Khloe Kardashian’s 9-carat diamond ring cluttering the airwaves, it’s easy to forget about other celebrity bling that made our hearts skip a beat.

Now that Mariah Carey is running around on all the talk shows promoting her latest album, I am reminded that this diva has a rock to rival them all.

Do you remember the 17-carat pink diamond ring she got from Nick Canon back in 2008? The impressive sparkler from Jacob & Co is valued at a whopping $2.5 million and with a center stone weighing in at 10-carats – a little smaller than a dime.

“I wanted to do something extremely special, something that Mariah would really appreciate,” Cannon told PEOPLE back in the day. “We got the pinkest stone we could find, surrounded by other diamonds.”

Carey definitely approved. “It’s so clear, you can see my finger through it,” she said.

According to Jacob Arabo of Jacob & Co., Cannon “was very involved,” in picking the ring, which has an emerald-cut fancy light pink center stone surrounded by 58 intense pink diamonds, flanked by two half-moon diamonds.

Stop! It’s too much to bear…

So I was feeling left out of the cool kids group – I don’t give a toss one way or another whether Mariah Carey got married or not. According to the rumors, the diva tied the knot with Nick Cannon on the Caribbean Island of Eleuthera a few days ago. Whatever…….
One person quick to capitalize on the speculation was that P.R. happy jeweler – Jacob the Jeweler. Well I suppose this story beats the other headlines that Mr. Arabo has been involved in recently.
Last week, Carey was spotted wearing a large diamond ring that began the speculation that she and Cannon were an item. According to The Associated Press, Jacob quickly put out a press release about the ring Cannon reportedly gave Carey, which described it as “crafted from platinum and features a square emerald cut fancy light pink diamond as the center stone surrounded by 58 intense pink diamonds and two half moon diamonds on each side. … The total carat weight of the ring — center stone is 10 carats — is a jaw-dropping 17 carats with a value of $2.5 million.” Whatever…..
MTV News report Carey, 38 and Cannon, 27 have been dating for less than two months, which is half as long as Cannon was going out with Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks when he proposed to her with a 15-carat stone via a JumboTron in New York’s Times Square.
Just shows you – size doesn’t matter.
