Met Gala 2015 Jewelry Trends

Lights! Camera! Fashion! The jewelry and fashion worlds collided this past Monday at the 2015 Met gala, Christening the Costume Institute’s China: Through the Looking Glass fashion exhibition. From Beyonce’s full frontal crystal adorned ‘gown’ to SJP’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) flame throwing headdress, this ball seemed more like a nudist colony-meets-offensively-tacky-Chinese New Year bash. Did Ms. Wintour mistaken you for one of the Real Housewives of New York and turn down your $100K request to buy a table? Well, that makes two of us. But no worries, we’ve got you covered on the top jewelry trends from fashion’s biggest Superbowl soiree…

Power Bangles & Bracelets

While blingy rings and statement pendants seemed to be a thing from this past red carpet season, sparkly arm parties were a hot ticket item at the ball. SJP rocked a bunch of boho-style bangles while good ol’ Katie Holmes played it safe with an icy trail of sparklers igniting her wrist and refining her look.

Everyone’s favorite ’90s throwback was practically a red carpet prerequisite. Chloe Moretz, Selena Gomez and the like, seemed to be sporting delicate black chokers. Even for super A-lists like Rihanna who trailed along in a breathtaking fur-trimmed sun yellow cape, chokers were the perfect way to illuminate her neckline, finishing off her dramatic look with a delicate sparkle.

Tasseled drops were a fave amongst Bee Shaffer and Lizzy Caplan. While drops may be a great way to draw attention to one’s face, it’s the wispy movement and structure of their tasseled cousin that adds an extra dose of glitz and glamor.

Matching Bling

Matching earrings are a must, which Amal and Solange proved like no other! Both chose to wear more avant-garde and edgier designs which is why chic jewels were the perfect fit for what could have been one potential style conundrum.

Top Color: Red

We LOVED the red trend especially on Helen!  With her laser cut-out gown and medallion drops, Helen Mirren slayed the scene in this incredible color. Mirren’s look was the perfect balance of Haute Couture without overbearing.

Sheer Dresses

Even with Rihanna’s never ending silk trail and other fashion spectacles, the sheer drama were in those see-through ankle scrapers worn by JLo, Kim Kardashian West and Beyonce. The good thing about wearing next to nothing and being decked in crystals is, no need to wear jewelry right? Was it too much or too little? You vote!

Met Gala 2014 Best Dressed

Anna Wintour’s infamous Met Gala took place last night and while no, we weren’t there (hey, we can dream!), we have scoured the web to check out the attendees in their very best dresses and baubles, and let’s not forget tuxes and suits. This year, the Met Gala 2014 theme was “White Tie and Decorations.” The theme honored Charles James, a British-born designer known for his glamorous ball gowns, classic silhouettes, and overall elegant designs. Here are our top four favorite looks (how could we not include SJP?!).

Best-Dressed: Sarah Jessica Parker channeled her inner Sex and the City and looked simply stunning in a black and white Oscar de la Renta gown, made especially for her of course. It was SJP’s idea to have de la Renta’s name embroidered across the back of the dress in scarlet embroidery thread. She accessorized with long white gloves and Fred Leighton earrings and bracelet.

Best-Dressed: Blake Lively and hubby Ryan Reynolds both looked amazing and pulled off the white tie theme flawlessly, but really do they ever look anything less than perfect? The lovebirds wore custom-designed Gucci pieces. Blake paired her silk chiffon gown with Lorraine Schwartz earrings and a large cocktail ring. Ryan on the other hand didn’t wear any accessories, but let’s be serious, he doesn’t need to.

Best-Dressed: Kate Bosworth looked gorge (and supper skinny!) in a pink Stella McCartney gown. Kate wore a number of gold accessories such as drop earrings, cuff bracelets, rings, and a choker-type necklace. Her jewelry came from a number of different designers including Ana Khouri, Vieri, Sidney Garber, and Anna Sheffield.

Best-Dressed: Beyonce can never do wrong, we all know that. Queen Bee paired a black Givenchy dress with a headpiece, and accessorized with black Lorraine Schwartz earrings (talk about statement jewelry) and several rings. One of the rings actually slid off her finger, and hubby Jay Z found it and acted out a mock proposal. How cute!

Worst-Dressed: You know this post wouldn’t be complete without us including at least one worst-dressed. That title goes to…Lena Dunham! We love Lena, we really do (go Girls!), but this dress really doesn’t flatter much. Maybe something a little longer would have been a better choice to accompany the theme of the night.

The Jewelry Insider

May 8, 2013

A-listers and Fashionistas alike channeled their inner punk rockers for the 2013 Costume Institute’s Met Gala ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’. Looks from Blake Lively, Jessica Alba, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Sarah Jessica Parker and more.

As Awards Season comes to a close each year, instead of opening our jewelry boxes, putting on every single piece of bling we own and sitting on our couch with a box of chocolates watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s, wallowing in the long bauble-less summer we are about to undergo, we get a special little glimmer in our eye knowing the Met Gala is right around the corner.

Known as the ‘Fashion Oscars’, this red carpet event is like no other, with a-list celebs and the industry’s top fashion designers present, it’s practically a jewelry-siting no-brainer. The Costume Institute Gala’s theme this year was PUNK: Chaos to Couture, leaving us with some interesting jewelry and fashion trends on the red carpet.

Standout Earrings

This year, substantial earlobe bling was hard to find compared to last year, but leave it to us to fish through a swarm of studs to find the best earring moments of the night.

Blake Lively paired a killer Gucci gown with even killer(er) Lorraine Schwartz earrings.

Amanda Seyfried wore a Givenchy gown with Fred Leighton earrings.

Jessica Alba hit the red carpet in a leather Tory Burch frock and paired it with super sleek ear cuffs by Jack Vartanian.

Kate Beckinsale donned geometric Lorraine Schwartz earrings with a fuchsia Alberta Ferretti dress. Nina Dobrev looked edgy in a Monique Lhuillier gown and Kimberly McDonald black earrings while Emmy Rossum paired a Donna Karan Atelier gown with shoulder-sweeping IritDesign earrings.

Hair Wear

The punk theme of the night brought out more headbands and hair jewelry than we’ve seen at recent red carpet events.

Sarah Jessica Parker rocked a huge fohawk headdress designed by Philip Treacy.

Katy Perry topped off a Dolce and Gabbana Virgin Mary gown with a gold crown.

Sienna Miller and Jamie King both topped off their looks with spiked headbands while Linda Evangelista wore a delicate Harry Winston headband with a Victorian-inspired Marchesa gown. Kelly Osbourne also topped off her look with punk-inspired hair jewelry.

Black and Gold

Whether it was the punk theme that brought on the black and gold or the NYC location, (New Yorkers can’t help but have an entire closet full of black) this duo stole the show when it came to color trends.

Beyonce was the talk of the night with a Givenchy gown. Taylor Swift transformed her look with an edgy J. Mendel gown. Sarah Jessica Parker and Amanda Seyfried went for similar black and gold prints with Giles Deacon and Givenchy gowns, respectively. Gisele Bundchen, Ginnifer Goodwin, Elizabeth Banks, Jennifer Lopez, Claire Danes, and Stacy Keibler were also among those sparkling in sultry black and gold gowns.

Luckily not real ones this time. Julianne Hough rocked a bug bauble for the second time with a diamond and pearl spider ring crafted by Jacob and Co. Does this one top the REAL beetle the actress/singer/dancer/Ryan Searcrest ex wrapped around her ear at the 2013 Golden Globes? We’ll let you decide.
