Find out why pearls -from strands and pendants to necklaces and earrings – are perfect for anybride.

Pearls are, quite simply, the perfect accessory to any wedding outfit. Whether the bride wore black, white or red. Whether it was a traditional, cutting-edge, non-demononational, Vegas-style or religious ceremony. Whether it’s the bride, matron of honor, bridesmaid, flower girl or mother of the groom. There’s one jewel that’s suitable for all… Pearls.

One of the beauty of pearls is that they come in almost every price category. From single digits – bought with the pocket money, to bank-breaking, breathtaking strands – there’s the perfect style at the perfect price for everyone.. Freshwater pearls are much more affordable than their saltwater akoya counterparts — and they can be found in most mall jewelry chains and department stores.

For the bride, a traditional pearl choker or multi-strand collar is an elegant, classic choice that she can wear long after her wedding day. She can also opt for something a bit more modern, such as sweeping shoulder-length earrings or a pearl lariat. Here are some other popular looks for the bride and her bridal party according to several major pearl jewelry manufacturers.

Basic pearl necklace strands of standard sizes (5.5 mm to 6 mm) and lengths (18 in. to 21 in.) are traditional favorites. However, some brides are opting for slightly larger sizes (8 mm to 8.5 mm) as well. In bridal jewelry, white pearls will always reign. But some brides prefer rose-colored pearls as well.

Freshwater pearl trio sets that include a “starter” necklace (with only one or a few pearls on a strand that can be added to on future occasions) along with a matching pearl bracelet and earrings are a big trend right now — both for the bride and as a gift for her attendants.

Basic pearl stud earrings are a popular choice for brides and their bridesmaids, because of their simple elegance and versatility. Other styles, including pearl hoops, dangles and leverbacks (all alone or with diamond accents) are gaining popularity as well.

Pearl bracelets are another strong category. Either single- or multi-strand, a bride can’t go wrong with this style as an accessory for her or her attendants.

Three-stone pearl styles — which represent past, present and future — are another important current category. Although this style originated with diamond jewelry, the romance and enduring love and commitment suggested by the look makes it a perfect fit for pearl bridal jewelry as well. The three-stone pearl look is also available in matching sets of necklaces, bracelets and earrings at many mall jewelry counters.

Meanwhile, pearl solitaires — on a traditional strand or a thin, clear nylon “invisible” strand, which produces a “floating” look — are another affordable choice.

Pearl Education: How Long is Long? Pearl Strand Lengths

Important pearls of wisdom about various pearl strand lengths – from short choker pearls to pearls that wrap around and around and around….

Pearl necklaces come in five basic lengths: Choker, Princess, Matinee, Opera and Rope. You may have heard of some of the names but probably have no idea how long each is and, more importantly, how it sits on the neck and below.

Choker – 16 in

The pearl choker is the shortest length circling the neck. While a pearl choker can be worn with almost any neckline and looks great with every style, from casual to formal, make sure it doesn’t swallow the neck. Pearl chokers draw attention to the neck but if you have a particularly short or long neck, the attention should be drawn away from the neck to the shoulder line or below. As such, stay away from chokers. For everyone else, a choker is great classic, suitable for every occasion.

Princess – 18 in

A princess strand falls slightly below the neckline and compliments every neck-style from high to low. It’s great for office-wear as its length sits just above a blouse neckline and won’t be hidden like longer lengths.

Matinee – 24 in

The Matinee strand is most popular for formal occasions and is the perfect length for any little black dress event. It’s also the best length for those who are well endowed in the chest region as it highlights the neck and shoulders finishing just above the cleavage.

Opera – 32 in

Falling just below the bustline, the Opera strand is great for eveningwear and compliments every body shape. For less formal occasions, it can be doubled over and worn as a twin choker ? a true day into night piece.

Rope – 46 in

If it’s versatility you’re after, then a pearl rope is the style for you. By itself the strand generally falls somewhere around the waistline and is perfect for those that like to stand out from the crowd. Its length means you can play with styles from triple, or quadruple rows of a choker, to doubling it as Princess and Opera style together. Or try simply knotting it for a chic look that’s perfect with everything from jeans and a tee shirt to an elegant evening gown.

Diamonds, gold, tassles, shells, beads – the fashion forward are using anything and everything to adorn the long chains flowing around their necks this season. Yes, it’s true. The pendant necklace is making a comeback. But The Jewelry Insider is happy to report it’s a far cry from Flavor Flav’s signature clock and the blinged out styles of Hip Hop’s fashion past. Whew!

And there’s more good news. This look isn’t just for the LC and Miley set. We spotted a fab gold snake pendant on Michelle Yeoh at this week’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emporer premiere and absolutely love how actress, Mamie Gummer (daughter of Meryl), layers her look at mum’s Mama Mia debut.

Hey. If you want to go big like Flav, I support you. But there are so many ways to skin this cat. Dig into your grandmother’s jewelry box for a vintage locket. Replace the standard gold chain with a ribbon or a long, leather cord. Splurge on an unforgettable diamond piece or scout for a unique gold medallion. Wear not one but two – or even three – pendants in a mix and matched look. Any way you slice it, this trend will have your signature style written all over it. And that, my dear friend, is the best part about it.

Summer won’t last forever, so get out there and show off your unique interpretation!

Birds do it. Bees do it. Even educated fleas do it. Let’s do it. Let’s fall in love – over and over again. This is the time when our favorite (and not so favorite) furry and flighty friends spring into love – this season, it’s time to follow their lead and wear your heart in the open.

Rihanna loves ‘love’ so much she’s spelling it out on her heart-shaped pendant. If you love ‘love’ take the four-letter word and spell it out in gold, add a sprinkling of created rubies, mother-of-pearl and diamond accents or just head for Zales where they’ve done the work for you.

Heather Graham seems to have turned love on its side, so has Macys with this falling heart sapphire pendant in white gold.

Alyssa Milano is another Hollywood beauty that holds her heart close wherever she goes. If you can’t decide whether your heart is golden, full of gems or simply dazzles, then don’t decide – just head to Sears.com and snap up this gem of a heart.

You don’t have to be Elizabeth Hurley to carry off the ‘white love’ look. This elegant pearl and diamond heart jewel from Zales is a timeless ode to love of all ages.
