Our favorite film festival has arrived…the Cannes Film Festival, unless you prefer the full French name Le Festival International du Film de Cannes (say that three times fast in your best French accent!). Cannes is fun for a number of reasons. One, who doesn’t love movies? Two, it takes place in France. Three (and this is of course the most important), celebs come decked out in their very best jewelry!
Blake Lively really is a fashion goddess. After her gorgeous Met Gala look, she knocked it out of the park once again during the first day of Cannes. She accessorized her burgundy Gucci gown with a Lorraine Schwartz colored diamond flower bracelet, a diamond vine bracelet, and unique pink diamond earrings with 25 carat ruby drops. We just love the big-earrings look! Wonder if we could pull them off…

Do we even have to say anything about Nicole Kidman? This woman just oozes class. She paired an Armani Prive gown (embellished with tons of bling) with some gorgeous Harry Winston diamond earrings, a Harry Winston diamond bracelet, and a Winston Cluster Line bracelet. Loving the bracelets! Pretty in character for her new film Grace of Monaco where she plays Grace Kelly, don’t you think?

Earrings were a big trend at the opening day of Cannes. Although many critics didn’t agree with model Karlie Kloss’s dark Valentino gown, we really loved her jewels. Karlie completed her look with ethical pendant earrings from Chopard’s Green Carpet Collection.

Rose gold jewelry is very popular at the moment, and perfect for the upcoming warm-weather months. Zoe Saldana stunned in a white Victoria Beckham dress, paired with Catene rose gold and diamond earrings and an Onde ring. The rose gold creates a lovely contrast with her white dress.

O.M.G. We had to save the best for last. Here is Elena Lenina, the eccentric Russian star, in an extremely poufy red dress and just look at that hair! HOW did she get it to do that? We’re lucky if we get some curls to stay in throughout the day. Her hair is completely dolled up with a tiara, crown, some funky flower looking jewel-encrusted hair pieces, and honestly, we don’t even know what else she could be hiding in there. Any guesses?

Back in May, we heard that Parisian jeweler Cartier had created a few replicas of Grace Kelly’s jewelry collection for a new biopic starring Nicole Kidman, directed by Olivier Dahan. Well, fellow jewelry mavens, get a tissue to wipe the drool off now because the trailer for Grace of Monaco has arrived!

As if we didn’t have enough reasons to be jealous of Nicole Kidman, enter five exact replicas of Grace Kelly’s jewels that Mrs. Keith Urban got to wear while filming. The baubles that have been recreated are a 10.47 carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring, a diamond-encrusted poodle broach, a three-strand diamond necklace and a diamond and ruby tiara.

Ahhh the life of a Hollywood A-lister. Check out some of these jewels our girl Nicole wore while filming.

Check out the trailer here.

You know we’ll have our blinders on for all the blingy jewelry moments in this film (while we play ‘Pretty, Pretty Princess’ and weep and eat Ben & Jerry’s, longing for our dreams of being a princess to finally come true).

How is it that Hillary Clinton, Jane Goodall, Condoleezza Rice, a pair of Olympic athletes and five female Nobel Prize winners can share the same honor with umm…Tyra Banks? It must be time for Glamour’s Women of the Year awards.

Last night the fashion magazine held their famous awards ceremony at Carnegie Hall, and they continued their tradition of honoring women from all walks of life.

I guess Glamazon media mogul is a walk of life?

Some of our favorite fashion plates were there to celebrate, including Fergie in white and silver Michael Kors, and the classic Debra Messing in Ralph Lauren.

“I’m wearing sparkles and feathers and tulle and I just thought it was appropriately Glamour-ous,” she told a Glamour reporter.

But did Messing’s famous stylist, Rachel Zoe, get the ‘witch vibe’? We’re thinking definitely ‘yes’.

Of course it was new mom, Nicole Kidman, who took fashion’s grand prize for the night in a gorgeous L’Wren Scott gown with tasteful diamond drop earrings and a fashion-forward arm band.

In town to promote her new Baz Luhrman film, Australia, the A-lister was delighted with her Glamour award for helping fight violence against women.

“It’s such a privilege. I feel a little overwhelmed,” she told USA Today.

I wonder if she was overwhelmed when Australia co-star Hugh Jackman shot that shirtless campfire scene? If you haven’t seen the trailer, ladies, fasten your seatbelts…

But all fashion, gossip and jewels aside, it was New York Senator and ‘almost’ President, Hillary Clinton, that made the biggest impression, inspiring a minute-long standing ovation.

Condoleezza Rice, elegant in Oscar de la Renta, had kind words about her fellow A-list political honoree: “I’m very fond of her, and I think she’s a great lady.”

Bi-partisanship extends its Glamorous reach. It really is a new day.

Earrings Shine at Elle Tribute

Hollywood’s A-list beauties sparkled at Elle’s 15th annual Women in Hollywood tribute last night in Beverly Hils. And it was all about the earring on the red carpet.

Diamond hoops found their way on a gorgeous Halle Berry and Courtney Cox-Arquette, Amber Tamblyn had diamonds dropping from her ears and Jennifer Lopez and icon, Jane Fonda, showed off their diamond cluster looks. Golden danglers lit up Kate Beckinsale and American Idol, Katherine McPhee, and the always-classic Nicole Kidman wore what appear to be small, tasteful gemstones.

This year’s honorees included Halle Berry, Jane Fonda, Nicole Kidman, Anne Hathaway, Sigourney Weaver, Isla Fisher and director Catherine Hardwicke – all of whom are featured in the magazine’s November issue.

“Someday hopefully it won’t be necessary to allocate a special evening to celebrate where we are and how far we’ve come,” Sigourney Weaver said. “Someday women writers, producers and crew members will be so commonplace, and roles and salaries for actresses will outstrip those for men, and pigs will fly.”

Kidman thanked all the directors who “molded” her, particularly the late Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack.”They were men in Hollywood who loved women,” she said. Fonda thanked all the women in the house – and Hollywood itself. “Aren’t we glad we’re not bankers,” she said. “We are in the most fantastic business.”

This week, it’s all coming together with diamonds, gold and some rocking rings. Nicole had her Sunday (that’s the name of her new baby girl – not the outrageous idea that the Australian actress had eaten some ice-cream……. god-forbid) and hubby Keith Urban is rumored to have gifted his wife a $73,000 Cartier diamond ‘trinity’ ring. It’s actually three rings intertwined – a yellow gold ring dusted with diamond that represents friendship – a rose gold diamond encrusted ring for love and a white gold ring with diamonds symolizing fidelity.
As we talked about yesterday, Lindsay’s love give her a diamond ring for her B-day and then on Monday, the suspense was finally over thanks to a Tacori diamond ring. Yep, the world has been put to rights and we can all rest easy – the Bachelorette, DeAnna Pappas has chosen her man.
Cyncism aside (as well as issues such as gas prices and the threat of an Iranian super-missile) –
DeAnna Pappas chose pro-snowboarder Jesse Csincsak to be her man. Both Jesse and account executive Jason Mesnick proposed to the once-spurned ‘Bachelor’ contender, but DeAnna went for the snowboarder who presented her with a platinum and 2.3 carat diamond ring that featured a princess cut center stone and princess-cut channel set diamonds.
The nuptials have apparently been set May 9 in Bahamas.
