The 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards aired Sunday night, bringing us a red carpet swarming with new jewelry and fashion trends as well as some expected disappointments. Read on for the top five trends of the night.

Normally the morning after, we dish on the shoulder-sweeping earrings or Wonder Woman cuffs that have made frequent red carpet appearances over the years. As those trends either take a back seat or simply become the norm, we welcome some new and exciting trends to add to your jewelry box.

Cocktail Rings
Finally! Hollywood has put a ring on it! And in the form of big, chunky diamonds and gemstone cocktail rings. Primetime TV’s finest rocked some cocktail rings that were large and in charge.

Zooey Deschanel matched an icy blue J. Mendel gown with an equally icy blue tourmaline ring by Chanel.

Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland was head-to-toe in emerald, 2013’s Color of the Year, pairing a green Caroline Herrera gown with Lorraine Schwartz green bling.

E! Red Carpet Hostess Guiliana Rancic rocked a $1 million diamond ring by Forevermark that would make even a Kardashian jealous!

Jessica Lange wore a black Escada gown accompanied with a Martin Katz cocktail ring. Kata Mara was sans any jewelry except for a large Irene Neuwirth ring that matched her J. Mendel gown. Other cocktail ring sitings included Sofia Vergara (obvi), Jane Krakowski, Christina Hendricks, Taylor Schilling

Green Goddesses

Whether it was the jewels or the gown, emerald was certainly the color of the night (Appropriate since the color gods at Pantone named it Color of the Year for 2013).

Standout looks that had us green with envy were Sarah Hyland (as mentioned before), Anna Chlumsky in Badgley Mischka, Lena Dunham in Prada, and Nancy O’dell.

Christina Hendricks looked ravishing, pairing a black down with emerald earrings and cocktail ring.

Sofia Vergara brought the bling once again with a Vera Wang gown paired with Multi color earrings and green ring by Lorraine Schwartz.

Anna Faris wore a cheerful yellow gown with a Fred Leighton green lizard brooch crawling up her back. Brooke Burke wore eye-catching jade earrings by Katerina Maxine.

Golden Girls
Yellow gold statement pieces continue to trend on the red carpet and are a perfect accessory for the fall.

Girls actress Allison Williams paired a blue Ralph Lauren gown with glowing Fred Leighton gold jewels.

Taylor Schilling rocked a white Thakoon paired with Jorge Adeler jewels, including a citrine and gold cocktail ring.

Nashville’s Connie Britton paired a blue and gold Naeem Khan number with gold stacked bangles by Cathy Waterman.

Padma Lakshmi wore huge gold earrings and gold cuff by Robert Lee Morris that paired well with her Kaufman Franco gown.

Other golden jewelry moments include Cobie Smulders (who couldn’t remember who designer her jewelry – YIKES), Jane Lynch and Merritt Wever.

Ladies in Red

While not a jewelry trend, we do pay respect to red carpet color trends that could inspire your own jewelry box collection.

Red frocks included Sofia Vergara, Morena Baccarin, Carla Gugino in Georges Chakra, Heidi Klum in Versace, Kaley Cuoco in Vera Wang, Kelly Osbourne in Jenny Packham, Linda Cardinelli in Donna Karan Atelier and more.

Babes in Blue

Every shade of blue made an appearance on the red carpet, capping off a month of sapphire birthstone bliss.

Tina Fey left black at home and rocked a bright blue Narciso Rodriguez gown. Deschanel sisters, Emily and Zooey both wore light pastel gowns by Houghton and J. Mendel, respectively. Jane Krakowski, Jessica Pare, Allison Williams, Maria Menounos, and Guiliana Rancic also wore standout blue gowns.

And leave it to a country girl to be the only notable celeb rocking a diamond necklace. Carrie Underwood paired a purple Romona Keveza gown with Johnathon Arndt jewels. Guess we will have to wait for the Country Music Awards for our next diamond necklace moment. Oh well.

Heavy Metal Jewelry Lights Up CFDA Awards

Lady Gaga never met a spotlight she didn’t steal, which was certainly the case at the 2011 CFDA Awards (aka: The Fashion Oscars) last night at New York’s Allice Tulley Hall.

While she didn’t bring the bling (sigh), she did shine in a studded Thierry Mugler number that unraveled into a sparkling thong (because who doesn’t need a sparkling thong?).

Add one Anna Wintour-inspired seafoam bob, red-nailed monster claws and towering platforms, and you’ve got yourself a style icon in the making.

Which is exactly what the Council of Fashion Designers of America thought when they awarded her with the (aptly titled) Fashion Icon Award, which she accepted with her parents looking on.

And while pop stars were on the minds of the fashion elite, it was heavy metal that made the red carpet sparkle with a huge showing of statement jewelry in solid yellow gold – along with summertime staples like yellow gold hoops.

Turquoise trimmings were also trending – another must-have for summer, as every fashionista worth their debit cards ALL know, dahling.

So. What have we learned? Lady Gaga is keeping the wig industry in business – and there are two essential items you gotta put in heavy rotation for the upcoming summer months: turquoise and yellow gold sparkle.

Here are two great looks from Jewelry.com to get you going. Day-glo bob, not included.

FINALLY – don’t forget to cruise over to the Jewelry.com Facebook Page for a complete look at all the CFDA red carpet pics – from Jessica Alba and Naomi Watts to the Olsen Twins and the Divine Miss Anna and more!

Look Sharp With Jaws Jewelry

Jewelry, hounds? I have another ‘lower jaw drop’ jewelry moment to share with you. Literally.

To celebrate “Shark Week”, Disney Couture and Discovery Channel are featuring a jaws-inspired yellow gold ring that’s selling like fishcakes.

The golden gums are the perfect way to weigh in with the statement ring trend (see yesterday’s blog for more) and at only $40 could work well solo or stacked.

In other lower-jaw-dropping news, Liz Taylor is apparently ‘diving’ into marriage again with her longtime companion, Jason Winters. This time she’s bringing a $3 million diamond turban as an escort. Jewelry.com reports the headgear will feature a 30-carat white diamond with two 40-carat yellow canary diamonds on either side.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water…

Jewelry hounds, let’s forget about our dreary lives for a moment shall we and enter the delightful dream scape that is actress Sienna Miller’s day-to-day.

She’s a glamorous movie star (with the bank account to match). She’s dating the hunky Jude Law. Again. She’s got that ‘skinny without trying’ thing going for her. And now? She has her pick of Piaget Possession jewelry as their new spokesmodel.

You can go ahead now and:

a) roll your eyes
b) do your best ‘vomit in your mouth’ impression
c) spontaneously start those double chin exercises
d) all of the above

To commemorate 20 years of their popular Possession Collection, Piaget picked the scrumptious Sienna to star in a series of iconic photographs wearing the classic jewels. Leaving no stone unturned, they assembled an A-list team of fashion industry professionals for a major photo shoot at Hudson Studios in New York, including legendary photographer, Raymond Meier, and renowned stylist and regular Vogue contributor, Elissa Santisi.

The first photo in the series is displayed above with two more to follow in the coming months, according to a press release, so stay tuned.

Click here to be the first to view the Youtube video capturing Sienna in action and more importantly – you can gawk at the Piaget Possession jewels featuring interlocking ring silhouettes in both yellow gold and diva-worthy diamonds.

Or just put on your bathrobe, open up a pint of New York Super Fudge Chunk and call it good.

Gold jewelry will always make my heart sing (despite the skyrocketing price these days), but there are some folks who take their gold obsessions to ridiculous heights.

Sure, we’ve heard of gold iphones, gold cars and gold fashion – but some folks want to trade in their Evian for a fancy bottle of gold-leaf spring water at a price you won’t believe.

Billed by Exousia Luxury as an ‘anti aging and anti-stress elixir’, the company is putting natural spring water in a fancy bottle, throwing in some 24 karat gold petals and calling it the fountain of youth. Think Goldschlager for the health conscious.

So how much does it cost? Well, that’s a big secret. You have to fill out a form on their website to qualify for that information, apparently. (Is this the Soho House or glorified tap water?). HOWEVER, this entry on the Luxury Insider site claims one bottle is $24,000! Seriously!!

I suggest staying young by indulging in a little gold retail therapy instead. These gold hoops from JCPenney are under $50 on Jewelry.com – just one example of many gold gems you can get without taking out a second mortgage to quench your thirst.

We all know gold fillings and glittering grills are status symbols famous hip-hop stars and wannabes use to put the Midas Touch on their teeth. But a recent study uncovered evidence that wealthy hip-hoppers aren’t the only ones who like to decorate their dentures.

According to National Geographic, sophisticated dentistry allowed Native Americans to add bling to their teeth as far back as 2,500 years ago.

An analysis of thousands of teeth examined from the collection in Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History revealed that ancient peoples had semiprecious gems soldered on to their teeth as a pure form of decoration.

While the origins of the samples are not known for sure, it’s clear that people – mostly men – from nearly all walks of life opted for the look, noted Jose Concepcion Jimenez, an anthropologist at the institute.

The ornamental gemstones (including jade) were attached with an adhesive made out of natural resins, such as plant sap, which was mixed with other chemicals and crushed bones, Jiminez said. He added that the dentists likely had a sophisticated knowledge of tooth anatomy. For example, they knew how to drill into teeth without hitting the pulp inside, he explained. Lucky for them.

Today, the art of tooth decoration is still alive and well – and not just on the likes of Lil Wayne or 50 Cent. Some folks opt to have gold, diamonds, birthstones and more bonded to their teeth as more dentists offer the service as a way to distinguish themselves in a crowded market.

And if you decide that bling on your bicuspids is getting in the way of say, chewing or speaking clearly? The decoration can be easily removed without causing any damage. Lucky for us.

Oscar, Opulence, and Orange – Oh My!

Jewelry hounds, my favorite designer has done it again. What would we red carpet watchers do without our Fashion Week Oscar de la Renta fix? Yes, this same Oscar who gave us Carrie Bradshaw’s stunning couture moment in the final Paris episode and oodles of Award Show memories.

His Spring 2010 collection was full of color and didn’t skimp on the bling, perhaps because his clientele includes some of the world’s wealthiest women – from icons like Barbara Walters to all those New York ladies who lunch.

For we mere mortals, it’s fun to gawk at the glamour.I am loving his tangerine touches, from simple sheath dresses to coral brooch accents.

And if you thought yellow gold was on its way out – think again. The runway sparkled with gold circle statement necklaces and earrings in addition to over-the-top chandelier shapes that would make Liberace blush.

And those red carpet gowns! How much would you die to see that pink number at the Emmys this weekend? Or, say, Angelina or Megan Fox in that black number?

Thank you, Oscar. For making me a covet-thy-fashionista pile of drool yet again. And for keeping Valentino-esque glamour alive (if you haven’t seen the Valentino documentary, Valentino: The Last Emporer, put it at the top of your Netflix queue tout de suite!) .

Which designer makes you want to sell your first born for a chance at greatness? Weigh in!

Jewelry fashion is a fickle beast.Just when you think you can retire your statement necklace (or day-glo bangles, as the case may be), the trend-setters bring them back to catwalk another day.

This fall, there are a few relics from bygone eras that are trending big for the new season, but there are also some tried and true jewelry categories that are holding steady for us too.

Here are my four top fall jewelry trends to watch – at least until we get a look at what Fashion Week has in store this October.

Tell me about it, Stud:

Break out your bedazzlers, studded jewelry and clothing is back! From bracelets and belts to shoes and bags, bejeweled fashion is polka-dotting its way back into our hearts and jewelry boxes. Tori Spelling actually has some cute studded styles in her collection. Who knew?

Black and White (and Green all over):

Black and white jewelry may bring to mind the mod days of the 60s, but its making Fall 2009 fashion shine bright this year.Find black and white with a splash of green, and you’ll get high marks from all the sartorial looky-loos.

Yellow Gold:

Summer’s favorite metal has staying power well beyond poolside BBQ season.Gilded, golden, over-the-top jewelry is a major ‘do’ for trend setting fashionistas and Rachel Zoe followers alike.‘Gaudy’ is no longer a bad word.

80s Glam:

Just when you thought it was safe, shoulder pads, day-glo and leg warmers are showing themselves again – and punk rock 80s jewelry is joining in the renaissance.Think Duran Duran meets The Ramones.

So stay tuned throughout the season for my updates to the fall jewelry fashion evolution. I’m secretly happy to know that even though the economy still blows, there is still whimsy and imagination to be had out there – and jewelry trends we can all participate in no matter our wallet size.

Gold jewelrywas all the rage this summer, with stars sporting it to red carpet events and fashionistas adding yellow gold sparkle to their spring collection selects. Now, InStyle is predicting that the sunny hue has serious staying power right into fall.

Claiming that jewelry mavens should focus on pieces that are “glossy, gilded and gorgeous”, InStyle picked a selection of 18kt yellow gold items that illustrated their point, including a gold pendant from Sophia Flore and a striking gold butterfly brooch from celebrity jeweler and Christina Aguilera BFF, Stephen Webster.

But not all of us have gold record royalties to use when snapping up our jewels for the fall season.

It’s early August and my celebrity jewelry sightings are about as rare as Jon & Kate-less magazine cover. Shining amidst the jewelry blight are a few star-studded events, a premiere here and there and an occasional fundraiser – but it’s been slim pickins, jewelry hounds. My apologies.

To give us a good shot in our bauble arm, I thought I’d round up a few pics from the last few weeks. There are a few bright spots, but for the most part – it’s dull, drab, and downright dowdy.

Starting on a high note, The Ugly Truth premiere in London this week brought out a stunning Katherine Heigl in green Naeem Kahn and yellow gold earrings with what appear to be either citrine or lemon quartz briolettes – a lovely accent to a dress that would make anyone green with envy.

Especially with Gerard Butler on your arm.

A resurgent Anne Heche looked lovely in Dolce & Gabbana at the Spread premiere in a vintage pearl and gold ensemble that matched the tone of the dress nicely.

Not so resurgent, lovely or nice is Medium’s, Patricia Arquette, who just isn’t cutting it with this statement necklace (How sick are we of statement necklaces, already? Weigh in!).

And finally, I give you one Courtney Love – who looks less and less like the Courtney we all tolerated back in her 90s hey dey. She may be rock and roll to her core, but the once fashionable Oscar-nominee has fallen far from the sartorial stature she once owned on the red carpet. I dare you to wear anything but black and layered chains, Courtney. You can do it, sister.

Clearly I’m cranky. Forgive me. But if the Teen Choice Awards and the Daytime Emmys are the only events I have to look forward to until Fall Fashion Week, I deserve a little whine space.

What do you guys of think of my picks? You like Katherine’s look? How about Courtney? Why did I strangely choose all blondes? Have I missed anyone this summer worth highlighting? Help!
