George Clooney is engaged. Yes ladies, you heard correctly – heartthrob George (we’re on a first name basis) is off the market. Sigh. He met his fiancé, beautiful London lawyer Amal Alamuddin, while visiting Dubai in March. What a lucky lady! Clooney proposed to Alamuddin with a ring that includes an ethically mined emerald-cut diamond around seven carats and two tapered baguettes all set in platinum. Um…gorgeous!

You may have also heard of Jenny McCarthy’s recent engagement to Donnie Wahlberg. Wahlberg proposed with a lovely 10-carat yellow sapphire, surrounded by nearly two carats of diamonds and set in white gold. Bling, bling! The actress excitedly announced the engagement on a morning episode of the show The View.

Celebrate May with this month’s official birthstone – lush green emerald (what else?) Did you know emerald is the symbol of spring? Here are some more fun tid-bits about the gemstone!
Emerald symbolized hope, rebirth, and the arrival of spring throughout the ancient world.
Some cultures believed the gem brought its owners love, intelligence, and eloquence.
Emerald is the gift of choice for couples celebrating their 20th and 35th wedding anniversaries (in case you need to buy any gifts for any upcoming celebrations…hint, hint).

Just two days ago, Sotheby’s New York premiered a number of extravagant jewels from the estate of big band/swing singer Eydie Gorme. Almost all of the jewelry in her collection was a gift from husband Steve Lawrence, also her onstage partner. Among the jewels is a 36.53 ct emerald ring set in platinum and 18K gold. Um…can we just hold this ring please?

Any guesses on how much this ring was auctioned off for? A whopping…wait for it…$4,645,000!

Trend Alert!

Criss-cross jewelry is a popular (and fun!) new jewelry trend. Celebs such as Jessica Alba, and How I Met Your Mother star Cristin Milioti have been spotted on the red carpet rocking this trend.
The beauty of criss-cross jewelry is that the design is really rather simple, but when viewed up close looks very unique. Check out Jessica Alba’s criss-cross bracelet for example. It adds a nice subtle but sparkly touch to her all-white dress.

Look at the way How I Met Your Mother star Cristin Milioti paired a rose-gold criss-cross ring with a brightly-patterned dress for a more eclectic look. We love her mani by the way (especially the one gold nail!).

One word came to mind when visiting the Victoire de Castellane “Precious Objects jewelry exhibit at the Gagosian Gallery this past weekend. That word was “wow.” Shortly followed by, “Can we have just one of these beautiful pieces (pretty please)?” Then, “Can we try on at least one diamond ring?” To which the answer was yes! Imagine our excitement. We snapped some photos of our NYC jewelry excursion to share with you.

Victoire de Castellane is a jewelry designer who lives and works in Paris. She made her first piece of jewelry at age five and moved on to design costume jewelry for Chanel at age fourteen (yes, you read that correctly). In 1998 Castellane joined Dior as the first Creative Director in their new jewelry department – her current role today.

Castellane’s “Precious Objects” exhibit, which is running now through next Saturday, April 26 at the Gagosian Gallery in NYC, tells a story of women under the influence of hallucinatory drugs. Each piece of jewelry is unique in its design, coloring, material, and texture. The exhibit showcases the most exquisite bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings in yellow and white gold, platinum, diamonds, jasper, rubies, opals, sapphires, emeralds, and fine stones (all the good things in life!).

It’s everywhere, so we had to write about it. That’s right, Kimye’s (Kim Kardashian’s and Kanye West’s), Vogue magazine cover. There has been a ton of controversy involving this cover. Celebs such as Sarah Michelle Gellar tweeted, “Well……I guess I’m canceling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me?”

Frankly, one controversial cover isn’t going to force us to cancel our Vogue subscription. Flipping through the glossies is an addiction that we’re not afraid to hide (along with jewelry of course!).
Fashion-goddess and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour responded to the harsh critics:
“There’s barely a strand of the modern media that the Kardashian Wests haven’t been able to master, and for good reason. Kanye is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that.”

We wanted to wish all our readers and fans a very Happy Easter and share some diamond-encrusted Van Cleef and Arpels and Tiffany&Co bunnies we came across, just because we like to look at all things sparkly and shiny (and because we would love to see these in our Easter baskets!). A Midwest metal dealer purchased a rare gold Faberge egg worth $33 million at an antiques mart. Yes you read that right – the egg is worth $33 million. It gets even better, the metal dealer meant to melt down the egg for scrap!

$33 Mil Faberge Egg, Photo Credit:

Luckily, he googled the words “egg” and “Vacheron Constantin,” and found an article on surviving Faberge eggs that quoted Kieran McCarthy, Director of London antique dealer Wartski, and showed a photo of his egg. Google knows all!

McCarthy commented, “[The egg] contained a Vacheron Constantin watch, so [the metal dealer] figured he could sell it slightly above market value.” Purchased from the antique mart for $14,000 he was planning on selling it for $15,000.

McCarthy traveled to the man’s home where he found the egg in the kitchen next to a cupcake (where else?). When he told the metal dealer what he had discovered and he dropped to the floor. That would probably be our first reaction as well, and then of course we would begin drafting a list of future purchases, diamond jewelryobviously included.

$33 mil Faberge Egg & Cupcake, Photo Credit:

Wondering just why this egg is so important and worth $33 mil? It is one of the lost Imperial Eggs designed by Carl Faberge. There are 50 imperial eggs in total. The location of 42 eggs is known, but eight are missing. Five are thought to be destroyed, but there are three out there in the world somewhere, well now two (we wouldn’t mind finding one in our Easter basket).

It’s reported the egg has been sold for $33 million to a private collector, although the exact total can’t be confirmed. The collector is allowing the egg to be displayed at Wartski in London from April 14 to April 17, so check it out if you’re in London!

If we could, we would definitely head over to the Wartskiand memorize every detail of that egg. We’re thinking “egg hunt” if you know what we mean…

Kate, William, and George arriving in NZ, Photo Credit:

Kate Middleton, Prince William, and Baby George are officially on tour in New Zealand, and the Duchess of Cambridge looked amazing as usual, just stepping off the plane in a double-breasted red military-style coat by Catherine Walker. We don’t know about you, but post-flight we’re lucky to look even remotely stylish in our yoga pants, hoodie, and sneaks.

We all know that Kate had her choice of any of the Queen’s jewels for the tour (lucky!), but in true Kate-style, she showed some local love to New Zealand jewelers Tory & Ko. The brand’s designers sent four of Kate’s favorite pieces, in hopes that she’ll wear them in New Zealand during her tour.

Kate’s selection included a pair of blue topaz bow earrings, a cultured pearl and diamond necklace with matching earrings from the bespoke collection, and a pair of citrine bow earrings from the Pretty Collection.

The Academy Country Music Awards (ACMA’s) took place this past weekend and guess who was watching – that’s right, we were! Even if country music isn’t really your thing (don’t knock it until you try it!), you have to admit that the ACMA’s are always fun to watch. Who doesn’t love checking out the latest red carpet looks and trends? We chose our top three favorite best-dressed (jewelry is what really wins us over) and threw in a worst-dressed just for good measure.

Taylor Swift, Photo Credit:

Best-dressed: The pretty and talented Taylor Swift sported a crop top with some major leg. Somehow we don’t think the average-Joe could have pulled off this look, but T Swift did it very stylishly. Her dangly Marina B earrings and wrist-wear, though simple, were perfect for her ensemble. Here are some tie drop earrings, shaped just like T Swift’s that are sure to spice up your look.

Faith Hill, Photo Credit:

Best-dressed: We don’t think it’s possible for Faith Hill to look anything but gorgeous. Seriously, didn’t she look amazing in her in v-neck blue dress with hubby Tim McGraw (who looked pretty good himself!)? What really pulled her outfit together was her geometrically shaped Martin Katz statement necklace. It reminded us a little bit of this blue topaz necklace.

Carrie Underwood, Photo Credit:

Best-dressed: We just loved Carrie Underwood’s classy fringe dress and the way she paired it with pink David Yurman drop earrings. Stunning! Who would’ve thought pink and beige go so well together? Searching for a similar pair? These Swarovski crystal starfish earrings might be just what you’re looking for!

Kacey Musgraves, Photo Credit:

Worst-dressed: Kacey Musgraves is such a beautiful girl, but her dress reminded us of something we wore to one of our high-school dances (remember all that tulle?). Hoop earrings are always in, so they were a nice touch. Here’s a finely crafted pair of hoops in 14K white gold to add to your collection of jewelry staples.

Who made it to your best-dressed and worst-dressed lists?
